Growing Popularity of Organic Farming

Last Tuesday, July 14th, 2009, USA Today published a front page article on the rising popularity of organic farming and the new generation of young people that are getting into organic farming. What do you think about this trend and would you do organic farming if given the chance?

Re: Growing Popularity of Organic Farming

Given half a chance, I would most certainly grow my own foods again.  At one time, I had a vegetable garden which I shared with all the neighbors.  Unfortunately, I never learned the art of canning.  Currently I'm restricted to a modest and unprotected (from the critters)herb garden. We do shop at the local farmers' markets for fresh foods.  There have been several articles in the paper about schools setting aside a bit of land for the children to work, learn and grow food.  There are also a few sections of abandoned properties that have become "collectives", where all of the local residents participate in the cleanup, planting and harvesting. Many take the bounty home to feed their familes and much is donated to local food banks.

Re: Growing Popularity of Organic Farming

Time Magazine recently had an article detailing the deplorable conditions of our food and beef growing industries. Naturally grown food is the healthy and smart way to go!
