Written By Dae Thompson

This apple turnover recipe is a very old recipe from the grandmother of Dae Thompson. Dae still has the hand written recipe that was given to her by her grandmother. These little turnovers are lovely when served for a Brunch or a Tea Party. Thank you Dae for sharing this wonderful recipe with us!

1/2 cup unsalted butter

2~3 ounces packages cream cheese

3/4 cup all purpose flour, sifted

1/8 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon cold water

1 jar Apricot preserves

1 cup chopped pecans, optional

Confectioners sugar

Glaze (recipe follows)

1. In a mixing bowl, sift flour and salt.

2. Using a pastry cutter or 2 knives, cut butter and cream cheese into flour.

3. Add water and mix lightly with a fork until blended. Cover with plastic wrap and chill until firm.

4. Cut dough into 24 pieces and keep chilled before rolling.

5. On a floured board, roll dough very thin to form 2-1/2x3 inch squares. (Hint: Use a ruler and a pizza cutter to square the dough pieces)

6. Preheat oven 450*F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

7. Spread each square close to one corner with about 2 tsp of apricot preserves and sprinkle with about 1/2 tsp pecans if using.

8. Fold over diagonally and crimp with a fork to seal. Brush with milk if desired for a glossy crust. Poke a few holes to allow steam to escape.

9. Place on baking sheet. Bake 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. Move turnovers to a cooling rack.

10. When completely cool lightly dust with confectioners sugar or drizzle with glaze.

Glaze:

2 1/2 cups powdered sugar

1/4 cup milk

1. In a small bowl, combine ingredients stirring until smooth.

Makes about 2 dozen.

Note: Other fruit preserves such as strawberry, blueberry, seedless raspberry, orange marmalade or even pineapple can be substituted for the apricot or consider making a variety of filled turnovers.
