Holiday Apple-Cranberry Sauce

The Waldrop Family of Abbeville, SC. loves to use this recipe Holiday Apple-Cranberry Sauce when they entertain over the holiday season. The blending of apples and maple syrup gives his recipe quite a distinctive flavor. A rich and memorable addition to any holiday table.

Holiday Apple-Cranberry Sauce

Serves 6

2 pound sweet apples (4 large apples)

1/4 cup sugar

2 tablespoons maple syrup

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup fresh cranberries

1 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice

1. Peel and core apples. Cut into 1-inch chunks. Place in large pot with 1/4 cup water, sugar, maple syrup, cinnamon, salt, and cranberries. Bring to a boil.

2. Reduce heat to medium-low; cover and cook 20 minutes or until apples are tender and sauce is thickened. Check halfway through cooking. If mixture becomes dry, add 2 tablespoons water.

3. Uncover pot and mash apples with fork until pulpy. Stir in lemon juice.
